LIGHTING MATTERS® has been committed to sustainable design since the company began in 2003. Beyond that, the founders of the company have been involved in responsible electrical design their entire careers. Learning from designing during the ‘energy crisis’ in the late 70’s, energy efficiency is part of our natural design inclination.

In general, we consider energy efficiency as an integral part of lighting design, not an afterthought or situational principle. Our designs are inherently energy efficient, using appropriate lighting and control systems for each application. We are conscious of technology, utilizing lighting systems that will serve our clients now and in the future. Not only are we aware of the energy characteristics of a lighting system, we also consider carefully the ongoing life cycle cost and maintenance issues that are so important through the life of the system.

In 2003, LIGHTING MATTERS® performed the lighting audit for Xcel Energy that assisted in the development of their highly effective program for Lighting Redesign Studies. Since then, we have performed numerous studies for clients in all sectors of the community, recommending strategies that most often save between 30 and 60 percent of the lighting energy usage.
